This project was done with the intention of analyzing the work of an accredited designer, Patrick Li, while exploring the intersection of my work with his.
CONCEPT
I developed a hypothetical collaboration with Patrick Li in the form of a mock magazine spread. I chose this designer to study how strong grid systems and minimal design principles shape effective editorial layouts. After researching Li’s work and visual approach, I designed a magazine spread that prioritizes structure, hierarchy, and consistency while allowing the ‘content’ to feel dynamic and intentional.
PROCESS
Approaching this project, I immersed myself in Li’s work through visual and informative research. I focused on his use of grid systems, restrained typography, and minimal composition to understand how structure supports storytelling. From there, I sketched layout concepts and created a mood board to establish hierarchy, spacing, and consistency. I refined the layouts digitally, testing alignment, rhythm, and balance to maintain consistency across spreads. The final design reflects a hypothetical collaboration between my work approach and that of Patrick Li.
